The Stunt knife handle used by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) to wound Maximus (Russell Crowe) before their final battle at the very end of the Ridley Scott Oscar winning classic Gladiator. 
In the movie Russell Crowe is Maximus, whom Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) had picked to succeed him. But Marcus's son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) snatches the throne, ordering Maximus dead. Instead, he's enslaved and learns to be a skilled fighter. When the Coliseum opens for gladiator games, Maximus finally has the chance for revenge.
The knife blade is sadly not with the handle but where it was attached is visible, and the distinctive swirling style of dagger is seen very clearly at that particular point in the film. The handle is made from cast resin painted metallic gold, it is a beautiful mold with a few signs of wear on the paint work revealing the white resin beneath, The handle measure approximately 5,5 cm (6”). A key prop from this Academy Award winning film.
