Description:
A hero helmet worn in the 2006 graphic novel movie adaptation 300. Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valour and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against the Persian enemy.
This helmet was worn by the Spartan king Leonidas (Gerard Butler), and can be screen matched to the scene in which Leonidas talks with his men around the reconstructed wall at the “Hot Gates”. Distressed specifically for the character, this hero version of the helmet was intended for use in close-up sequences.

The helmet is made of fibreglass with leather patches applied at the cheeks for the comfort of the wearer. A section of Velcro is attached at the rear of the helmet and would have been used for securing Leonidas’ ponytail during wear. An array of cuts, gouges and scrapes, as well as traces of blood, can be found across the helmet’s surface.

Well used on the production, the helmet has suffered some damage including the loss of its plume trough and a crack in the fibreglass at the fishtail on the helmet’s rear. However, in spite of this wear, the helmet remains in an otherwise good production-used condition.
